In Hanoi, it's a must to have breakfast like the people of Hanoi! Most Hanoians don't have breakfast at home; they prefer going out to eat. They call breakfast "morning gifts". Instead of morning greetings like, "Have you had breakfast?" they say, "Have you received your morning gift? Would you like to have a morning gift?" The morning gifts for breakfast can be a packet of sticky rice or corn sticky rice, a bowl of beef pho, chicken pho, bun thang, or piping hot bun moc... My favorite place to sit everyday is at the table in the reading room. There is a sliding glass door that I can slightly open to feel the wind if I liked. It will get breezy very quickly, even during a summer’s noon. In times like that when the wind keeps flowing, my heart is filled with joy and pride of my house. It has wind coming in even though it was tucked at the very back of the alley. Then, the guests who come in and out never paid any mind to me, yet I can easily see them…Working here helps me concentrate easily, and even if I fell asleep a little it wouldn’t matter either…Sometimes, when there are guests already seated there, I’d be happy as if if I’ve shared a little bit of my secret with them…
